The Plymouth-based Michigan Credit Union League announced Friday afternoon that its "Invest in America" program has resulted in the sale of nearly 57,000 new Chrysler L.L.C. and General Motors Corp. cars since it was launched nationwide in January.
Sales totaled 31,916 in February.
The two-month totals account for about $1.4 billion in sales and about $1.1 billion in credit-union financing, according to the MCUL, which said it will broaden its marketing efforts in April.
The MCUL said that nationwide, the percentage of new car sales financed by credit unions has climbed from 14 percent to 20 percent.
